Ok, I thought I'd put this up here because I wasn't sure of what people think of this. I have a lot of books that say children's literature on it or whatever and I don't htink they're for kids. Some of the stuff they have to do with are so, oh how do I say this, not for kids? Like, this one book i have is a historical fiction book, but it's for children, and it's about this kid who's whole family dies from tuberculosis and he has to bury them. He was afraid of being alone, and after his mother dies, he is alone. Doesn't have anyone in the world left to call family, so he goes off in search for work instead. He meets this guy who's a doctor/dentist and learns the ways of his job and likes it. There's lots of bad stuff that happens in this book and I don't know if death is bad for kids to read about, I mean all the details and stuff, I think if I were a kid, it'd make me cry. I mean in fantasy, it's to be expected sometimes depending on what book you read, but I think death should be learned from their parents and not from a book, but it's good that authors write stories that have suspense or mystery in it. I guess it all depends on the age of the main character that the story focuses on to be a children's book. I know that the Harry Potter series is read by lots of older readers and adults now because there's lots of dark fantasy and stuff and kids didn't want to read it because they were scared, but some kids do. I heard that from a friend of mine, so I dunno about that. Maybe I'm taking this too seriously though because I love to read. I guess it's just that when you read your suppose to, if you want to, imagine what the people in the book are going through and especially if there's lots of description, you can see what's going on. But if I'm crazy, I understand. lol. Anyway, I just wondered what others thought on kids books now a days.
Talk soon,
Jasmin
I don't know. That's a very good question. It depends on what people view as kids' books. That one certainly shouldn't be.
I disagree, on the contrary, I think the children’s books of today are to immoral and so silly and unbelievable. It makes children fantasize, be naïve, and not realize things. Why teach your kids to be interdependent? I just wish children’s literature can at least preach the truth, assure that kids gets the proper training for life, good morals, and healthy messages/themes.
Look at Cinderella and Snow White! Disgusting and completely nasty. Why have children read that when children can be taught something as advocated in Aristotle and Ayn Rand’s work, but simplified. Kids today aren’t intellectual enough. This generation is so water down and ignorant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrrrrgh!
Well, I think it really depends on the maturity levil of the child in question, because a lot of children now-a-days enjoy reading because they can learn something educated. I think a lot of children today get borred of just a simple stoy like "The Treee Little pigs," now a days, they want to read something a little more challenging! And so they turn to books like Harry Potter, and novels that would take a while to read, and so that's kind of what I've noticed. And today, a lot of what we call "children's litterature", is actually what some young adults like to read. Also that's why there's different reading levils for different books.
Yes, I agree with you there, with the reading levels. You are right, and it also goes the other way, that children enjoy to read young adult novels.
